«Physical-Technical Institute» - structural unit of Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science «Udmurt Federal Research Center of Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences»
The Physical-Technical Institute (PhTI) of the Ural Branch of RAS has been a leading scientific research organization of the Udmurt Republic since the moment of its foundation. Its history starts with the Izhevsk Department of the Metal Physics Institute of the Udmurt Scientific Centre of the USSR AS in 1977. In 1983 the Physical-Technical Institute with f special designing bureau and experimental production of the Ural Scientific Centre of the USSR AS was organized. In 2017 the Institute became a part of FSBSI, named “The Udmurt Federal Research Centre of the Ural Branch of RAS” as a structural subdivision.
At present there are 4 scientific departments with 8 laboratories included: the Department of Theoretical Physics; the Department of Surface Physics and Chemistry (the laboratory of the surface electron structure, the laboratory of x-ray electron spectroscopy, the laboratory of atomic structure and surface analysis); the Department of Nanomaterials Physics and Chemistry (the laboratory of physics of non-equilibrium metal systems, the laboratory of ultradisperse systems, the laboratory of organics systems mechanoactivation); the Department of Investigation and Diagnostics of Spatial Structures (the laboratory of modeling and analyzing signals and images, the laboratory of electro-magnetic phenomena).
The main purpose of the Institute is to perform research and create applied developments in the fields of physical-technical and materials sciences. The research is carried out according to the main directions of fundamental RAS research: physics and chemistry of surface, electron and local atomic structure of surface layers and nanoscale systems, nature and properties of non-equilibrium metastable states that occur in metals and alloys under thermal, mechanical and radiation effects, static and dynamic magnetic and magnetoelastic phenomena, electromagnetoacousties, electro-magnetic acoustic techniques of the diagnostics of the spatial structure in materials and physical-mechanical systems.
Currently the Physical Technical Institute of UFRC of RAS has highly skilled scientists and engineers – more than 70 PhD (namely, ~20 Doctors and ~50 candidates of sciences).
The availability of up-to-date instrumental technical facilities, highly skilled specialists allows us to carry out research work at the level of world standards. The fundamental and applied research performed at the Institute is implemented in such branches of national economy as engineering, metallurgy, instrument making, medicine, agriculture, archeology, land-use and natural resources study.
The Institute has strong ties with leading enterprises of Udmurtia, which allows the results of research and experimental developments to be applied in the production process and to improve the quality and increase the number manufactured of products. To train skilled and compliment scientific personnel there are postgraduate courses according to the following directions: condensed state physics, physics of magnetic phenomena, physical chemistry, denies and techniques of experimental physics, mathematical modeling, numerical methods and program complexes. The leading scientists of the Institute take an active part in teaching the students of higher edition institutions of the Udmurt Republic. The scientific achievements of the Institute employees have been awarded the State Prizes of the RF and UR as well as the titles “Honored Worked of science of RF” and “Honored Worked of the Udmurt Republic”, medals and diplomas of international exhibitions.
