The Udmurt Agricultural Research Institute was established on December 25, 1997 in accordance with the Decree of the Government of the Udmurt Republic and the Decree of the Presidium of the Russian Agricultural Academy by transforming the Udmurt State Agricultural Experimental Station and the «Izhevskoye» Production Experimental Production Facility. The Institute provides scientific support for the development of agriculture in the Udmurt Republic.

Scientific research areas of the institute:

1. Development of theoretical principles and innovative technologies for the reproduction of agricultural land fertility, including those that are degraded, disturbed and contaminated with various pollutants. Research work is being carried out in the field of ecology and soil science.

The research is aimed at increasing the fertility of sod-podzolic soils, developing adaptive-landscape farming systems, resource conservation and increasing the productivity of crop rotation.

2. Development of the scientific foundations for the design of highly productive environmentally sustainable agroecosystems,  agricultural technologies of the new generation to ensure sustainable economically and environmentally sound production of crop products. Scientific research covers the whole range of issues on seed production of grain crops and perennial grasses, development of varietal technologies, selection of winter wheat and fodder production.

3. Development of scientific foundations for creating highly productive and sustainable to bio- and abiostressors of varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops, effective technologies for healing and clonal micropropagation of agricultural and ornamental crops. The research work covers the study of the whole spectrum of problems in the potato industry (selection, seed production, reproduction and growing technologies), as well as in the field of developing a biotechnological basis for the nursery system of berry crops.

4. Development of effective approaches and methods for improving the economically useful traits of farm animals and insects, creation of keeping and feeding systems that ensure the realization of genetic potential using resource-saving production technologies. Research work is being carried out in the field of dairy cattle breeding, pig breeding, the study of the vital activity and productivity of bee colonies.

5. Development of effective methods of therapy and prevention of mass diseases of young cattle based on specific antiviral globulins, bee products and various strains of effective microorganisms. Research work is being carried out in the direction of therapy and prevention of massive cattle diseases.
